Recently as new vaccines have been approved and more women use OB/GYNs for primary care, OB/GYNs are being asked to provide more vaccines to women. As a result, OB/GYNs are dealing with many new issues relating to immunizations. These include screening patients to determine vaccine needs, training staff to prepare and administer vaccines, documentation of immunizations, and the storage and handling of vaccines to ensure efficacy and safeguard your investment. The San Diego Immunization Branch (SDIB) has been working with Pediatricians and Family Practices to provide professional training for staff and to assist offices in ensuring delivery of vaccines in a professional and safe manner. As part of San Diego County Health and Human Services, all services are provided confidentially and at no cost. The SDIB will assist you in providing immunizations by:
- Conducting free staff trainings on vaccine needs of women, vaccine updates, proper storage and handling, and proper documentation of immunizations
- Providing physician updates on new vaccine recommendations and requirements
- Providing free patient education materials specifically for OB/GYN patients
- Conducting confidential chart reviews of immunizations and provide recommendations of improving vaccine delivery
- Providing free office support materials including Immunization Records for your patient charts
